Editors note: During all of our testing we will be using the DIGISTOR™ DIG-78102 with the “Single” USB cable to gauge how the drives integrated Li-Polymer battery performs.

DIGISTOR™ DIG-78102 Review Results

Positive:

• Reads BD-ROM SL and DL media at 2x
• 2x Writing speed on BD-RE media
• Reads both DVD+R and DVD-R media at 8x
• Good to Excellent write quality on CD-R media
• Quiet drive operation
• Single USB connection with long lasting integrated Li-Polymer battery
• Supports 5x reading and writing on DVD-RAM
• Good to Excellent DVD writing quality
• Well written and easy to understand Quick Start Guide
• Relatively inexpensive for a External Blu-ray burner

Negative:

• Does not Bitset DVD+R/RW or DL+R media.
• No software bundle*

*As of Nov. 15 2009, all DIGISTOR™ External Blu-ray and DVD Burners are now shipped with Arcsoft Total Media burning and backup software.

Conclusion of DIGISTOR™ DIG-78102 Review

Let us summarize the most important positive and negative points below:

The DIGISTOR™ DIG-78102’s ability to write CD, DVD and Blu-Ray media with Good to Excellent quality make this External drive a must have for any Laptop or even desktop PC.

The DIGISTOR™ DIG-78102 had no problem reading or writing any of our Blu-ray media both pressed and blank respectively; performing flawlessly to the drive specifications.

Writing of CD-R/RW media while only 8x respectively gives Good to Excellent quality throughout, the DIGISTOR™ DIG-78102 is also a very good CD-R/RW reader. Writing of DVD-R and DVD+R media with the Digistor DIG-78102 at 8x with Good to Excellent writing quality as well.

The drive supports an USB 2.0 interface for quick and easy installation (Single and Dual USB cables are included in the box); with the integrated Li-Polymer battery this drive is ideal for both laptop use as well as the desktop PC, this really makes the DIGISTOR™ DIG-78102 a top of the line external multi format drive solution.

We have only found a few negatives with this drive, Bitsetting is not supported on any DVD+R/DL media and the drive does not come with any burning software*.

To sum it all up, this is what we would say: “The DIGISTOR™ DIG-78102 is a Blu-ray burner and reader that gives you the ability to both burn and watch high-definition content on and laptop or desktop, additionally its capability to write DVD and CD-R media with good to excellent quality establishing this drive as a must have for anyone on the go or at home..”
